Facing the Hyperstructure

Facing the Hyperstructure is a large scale, site-specific installation created specifically for the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts by Jessica Angel, a Colombian artist living and working in New York.

Angel lived in Birmingham for 14 weeks and took over the lobby of the AEIVA lobby to create the installation. She worked with AEIVA staff and created an art studio class curriculum for the UAB Department of Art and Art History where she gave lectures on the intersection of art, Architecture and science. In addition, the group of students worked as Jessica Angel's studio assistants to complete the production of the installation.

The smallest of the three AEIVA galleries served as Angel’s studio for the duration of her residency and is open now to the public during normal hours of operation displaying the documentation of the installation process.
